The list for the specific operating system would give you details of currently installed Windows services on your system. You would want to disable a service for various reasons. It could be because of some unpredictable acts of the service on your system that you finds difficult to manage. You could do this when you want to just see what happens when you stop a particular service out of curiosity also. This is how you would disable or stop a service, regardless of your reasons.

  1. You may have to find out the name of the service you wish to stop or disable from the list of services.
  2. Now, you may right click on the service name and select Properties option to proceed with the next step.
  3. This would get you the Properties dialogue box for that particular service, just hit the stop button in this.
  4. You should know that this service would be stopped from running just from the duration of this computer run time and restarting would disable this. So, to ensure this doesn’t happen go to next step.
  5. In the Properties dialogue window, you have to look for Startup type drop down list and select the disabled option here. Lastly, click on the apply button and you may close the window. This would disable the service from loading at all. Here is a word of caution for you.

For the smooth functioning of any Windows XP operating system, you need to enable a few Windows XP services. This has to be given utmost importance and care, make sure to read the description, for each service prior to taking a decision if to stop or disable it.
